Vanessa Cooper is Hampshire born, and has been painting since her early ‘teens. She studied at Portsmouth University, first exhibited her work in 1987, and has built a reputation as a bold, imaginative artist with a deep love of colour.
Often categorised as a naive artist, Vanessa works principally in oils redrawing her compositions over and over again to pare down the picture’s content to it’s basic elements, “It’s harder to leave things out of a painting than to pile a load of stuff in.” She takes her models from nature, forests and gardens, as well as family life, pets and children. There are deep veins of both sensuality and humour in her work which enhance it’s vitality.
Vanessa is represented by galleries nationwide.
"I'm very happy to create a commissioned painting: to capture the characters or a scenario of your favourites, whether a menagerie or a single loved one! Then they too can sit and join you at at your kitchen table!"- Vanessa Cooper
